There is a growing need in the army to cut down on recruiting wastage. A brigadier from the MoD said, 'The marked increase in new recruits leaving the force inside their first 12 weeks is worrying... We need to vet and interview better to identify those who are less likely to stay the course.' The knock on effect of this view at local Army Recruiting Offices is apparent. Gone are the days when gut feeling was sufficient to guarantee a recruit a place; now more emphasis is put in to interview techniques. Todays recruiting staff are looking for applicants with a good work record and a love of outdoors activites like camping,canoeing and mountain climbing who enjoy learning and haved proved they cab handle discipline. Todays recruits have been school prefects, Army cadet Force members or Territorial Army soilders. One recruiting sergent remarked, Applicants need to prove they can handle the stark realities of military life and wont give up when the going gets tough . . . Because iy certainly will do.
